Linda Leonard Lamme was a professor of emerging literacy and multicultural children’s literature. A renowned scholar in her field, she inspired many researchers and hundreds of teachers from around the globe to use children’s literature as a path to a more just world. Her colleagues at the National Council of Teacher Educators wrote “Linda was passionate about children’s literature and enjoyed sharing that passion and her love of children’s literature with everyone. She was known and respected across literacy organizations, schools and libraries. …. She acted fervently on her beliefs that books, especially those with explicit perspectives on race, poverty, and gender identity, were critical to educating children and preparing the next generation of teachers. “
